spanish song for kids elefante 2

Children all over the world sing about elephants swinging on a spider’s web, and keep singing and singing as they add more elephants. Un elefante se balanceaba is one of the best known Spanish songs for kids. It is a counting song with a rhythm and rhyme that help children learn the words. With each verse, children add another elephant to the web.

Like most traditional children’s songs, there are several variations of Un elefante se balanceaba. For example, you can sing se balanceaba or se columpiaba. The elephants either fueron a llamar or fueron a avisar. To describe how the web does not break, in some variations you sing como veían que resistía (since they saw that the web was strong/ since they saw that the web didn’t break) and in others you sing como veían que no se caían (since they saw that they didn’t fall).

There are many YouTube videos of the song. These three are clear and not too fast.
Un elefante by Música Vaca – This version by Música Vaca is just voice and very clear. It uses se caían and the lyrics are on the screen.

Un elefante – This version is very slow and clear. The graphics support words of the song well.

Un elefante se balanceaba – This version uses resistía. The video is a little strange.

Here is one common version of the lyrics.
Un elefante se balanceaba,
sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veía que resistía,
fue a llamar a otro elefante.
Dos elefantes se balanceaban,
Sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veían que resistía,
fueron a llamar otro elefante.
Tres elefantes se balanceaban,
sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veían que resistía,
fueron a llamar otro elefante.
Cuatro elefantes se balanceaban,
sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veían que resistía,
fueron a llamar otro elefante.
Cinco elefantes se balanceaban,
sobre la tela de una araña.
Como veían que resistía,
fueron a llamar otro elefante.

No matter which version you sing, the song lends itself to many activities with counting, elephants and spider webs.
